DMP Theme, Topic, or Guiding Question

We asked ourselves the questions: How are human connections created, maintained, and disrupted? and How do connections to others (or the lack thereof) impact our identity? As we shared our stories, many of us expressed that we feel strongly connected to others through sound and music, so those two things will likely be a big way that we represent and share connection (or the lack thereof). We also all talked about family connections as well, so it is possible that we will tell stories about our families, whether those families are ours by blood, marriage, or even other connections--love of a certain book, passion for a production, or even simply those we are surrounded by everyday, such as in class, in our neighborhoods, and at church. We are also interested in the ways that the pandemic and other world challenges have impacted our connections to those around us, and the ways that technology has inhibited and encouraged those connections. We plan to discuss and explore the ways that our connections to those around us are created and affected by technology, distance, music, and more. We are also interested in exploring why they get disrupted, as well as how, so we can fully explore the reasons, circumstances, and emotions involved with connection and how we, as people, connect to our family, friends, and community. Additionally, we want to know how connections shape and define our identities and the way we see others.
